Artist, bec massey is available for your next professional development workshop, community group gathering or youth arts activity.


All workshops are facilitated by bec, who brings a wealth of experience in leading workshops on the construction of various styles of lanterns for a variety of events.


Making lanterns is FUN – and all participants will be encouraged to explore their personal creativity in an informal learning environment.

Lantern Making 101: pyramids


With the guidance of a professional artist, children will learn how to construct, cover and decorate their very own lantern at the venue of your choice. Lantern making provides children with a fun, informal environment to practice fine motor skills, construction and information retention skills as well as maths, physics and art all rolled into one!

Suitable for: Children aged 6 to 11

Maximum participants: 25

Duration: 3 hours

Intermediate Lantern Making: stars, pods, torches


Participants will learn construction, papering and decorating techniques of a more complex shape. These lantern styles are more intricate and are therefore more suited to older children and adults.

Suitable for: Ages 12 to adult

Maximum participants: 20

Duration: 3 hours

Adult Lantern Classes

Participants will learn the principles of lantern construction, as they design and build their own lantern.  Designs such as birds, fish and flowers can be covered,  but creativity is unlimited by your imagination!
