bio

bec massey is a West Australian based, free-range artist and arts facilitator with over ten years experience in Community Cultural Development work.

After completing a Visual Arts degree in 2005, she spent several years working and learning with LightnUp, a Community Arts Organisation based in Lismore  who specialise in large-scale outdoor lantern parades, fire events and celebration.

During this time, bec worked on many events along the east coast including Bellingen Global Carnival, Woodford Folk Festival and numerous community events and festivals in between.

This work has led to liaising with a wide cross section of the community including indigenous communities, youth groups, people with disabilities, environmental groups, council members, corporate bodies, etc. Geographically, this work has led to traveling up and down the east coast of Australia, far north Queensland, western New South Wales, Tasmania, New Zealand and across Australia to Perth, where she now calls home.

In 2008, she was part of Puppet Caravan, a group of puppeteers traveling across the country from Northern New South Wales to Perth, performing and facilitating puppet workshops along the way.

2009 found bec relocating to Western Australia, setting up her own business  and working on events such as Fairbridge Folk Festival, the Awesome Festival and Keela Dreaming Festival in amongst smaller community projects and working interstate.

Prior to university, her background was located in Central Western New South Wales, where most of her formative years were spent. It is for this reason, combined with her experiences of working with remote communities, that she has a personal interest in taking the arts to rural and remote areas.

Bec carries her own Public Liability Insurance and a current Working With Children Check.
